Abstract

An Irish SME is seeking a manufacturer of Electroluminescent (EL) wire. The company needs the technology including machinery to manufacture EL wire. The technology will be deployed in a small workshop/factory where the new product will be assembled.

Details

Lightwire consists of a copper conductor core wire coated with a layer of electroluminescent phosphor and wrapped in an inner transparent polythene sheath, which is then wound with a double helix of very fine conducting wire.

This coaxial sandwich is then insulated with a thin vinyl protective sheath, followed by another layer of coloured translucent PVC sheath Connecting a high Voltage, high frequency AC electric current across the inner core wire and the outer helix of wire excites electrons in the phosphor layer to emit light.

The Company is developing a new product in collaboration with another company by way of a joint venture agreement. A third level institution has been commissioned to bring this new product concept to Prototype stage. EL wire is a major component of this new product.
