Abstract

A German university is looking for SME partners for application of innovative materials instead of steel for power generation. They plan to expand their activities in combining different production steps for iron-aluminides. The aim of the project is to establish a process chain for iron aluminides including casting, forming and machining.

Details

The research material can be used for the application in high temperature areas because of their specific properties. Besides the excellent material characteristics it offers also low raw material costs in comparison to high alloyed steels, nickel based alloys and titan aluminides. The objectives of the project are :
1) to develop a process chain for innovative iron aluminides;
2) to generate basic understanding of the interdependencies among material properties, finishing process, and component quality;
3) finishing of iron aluminide components for industrial application.
Industry partners should propose an application for iron aluminides in form of a demonstrator.
