Abstract
A Swiss SME developed a high efficient common rail system for diesel engines which can be produced at lower cost compared to other systems. This new system has also a benefit on injection behavior. It is especially suitable for car and truck engines up to 50 kW per cylinder, bigger engines on request. The Swiss SME is looking for licensees interested in introducing this common rail system into the market.
Details
Legislation of emission level for diesel engines becomes more and more stringent. To fulfill these regulations a common rail injection system will be mandatory. In the minimisation of the negative impacts of transportation on the environment like NO2 and global warming due to CO2, diesel engines have an advantage.
This means, especially in emerging markets, the share of diesel cars will grow significantly.
Because of the fact that diesel engines are more expensive than fuel engines, it is very important to minimise the production costs of the injection system. Standard common rail systems are not that fuel efficient, because they have a static leakage when they are pressurized.
Because of the big market potential, this Swiss SME with several years of experience in the common rail business developed a high efficient common rail system. The system is simpler to produce and therefore less expensive. Furthermore it has no static leakage and a better injection behavior as each injector contains a so called "mini-rail". Inspite of the "min-rail" the production is quite easy as there is no need for an extended needle which would be very difficult to manufacture.
The system is suitable especially for car and truck engines up to 50 kW per cylinder, bigger engines on request.
Innovative Aspects:
• Simple and economical to manufacture
• Better fuel efficiency due to no static leakage.
• Better injection behavior due to integrated "mini-rail"
• Specially designed for emerging or other very cost sensitive markets

Market application | - Trucking - Motor vehicles, transportation equipment and parts - Engineering services - Consulting services
|
Stage of development | Available for demonstration
|
Patent Rights (IPR) | Patent(s) applied for but not yet granted
|
Cooperation type | - License Agreement - Adaptation to specific needs
Type of partner sought: Big enterprise preferred, because investment is about several millions of Euro if there is no existing plant for injection systems.
Specific area of activity of the partner:
• Partner who is willing to invest several millions of Euro in a production plant for a car, truck or ship supplier in a growing market.
• A technological collaboration is also possible for further development of the common rail system.
Task to be performed by the partner sought: Buy a license to bring this product to the market. There is no need for a deeper understanding of fuel injection. This know-how will also be delivered by the Swiss company.
