AbstractA southern Italy SME,specialized in applying artificial intelligence techniques for the promotion/valorisation of cultural heritage,has developed an innovative personalized cultural tourism system able to provide cultural information and visit paths to a tourist adequate to his culture,interests,experience,time and money to spend,etc.The partners sought are public/private subjects interested in innovative personal tourist services aimed to promote cultural and economics assets of a cultural area
DetailsThe technology offered is composed by:
- a Client/Server architecture, where the Client side is implemented by mobile applications;
- main Web Server used for the central information management.
The users’ Cultural Profile is used by the system to select time by time the best cultural site or commercial service in order to increase the users’ satisfaction degree. In this way, the visit time available is optimized too.
The system was built adopting user modelling techniques joined with object oriented databases to store the users’ Cultural Profile. Moreover, an algorithm based on Genetics Algorithms was used to select time by time the users’ best cultural site according to the users’ Cultural Profile preferences.
The main aim of the technology is to provide tourist itinerary suitable to the users’ interests and preferences, involving and emphasizing all cultural and tourist items (well-known and unknown) of a territory.
The system offered is able to trace the users’ cultural choices (historical and artistic features for each cultural site as well a detailed description of the cultural information required) and optimises the users’ available visit time and satisfaction degree thought user’s behaviours formalization (like as user’s degree of satisfaction of cultural site, time available for visit on medium time of visit for site, sites keep in favourite list, etc.)
Moreover, the database engine implemented on mobile applications combined with dedicated XML (eXtensible Markup Language) engine allows the exportation of updated user profile on main Web Server in order to provide personalized services at the end of cultural visit too.
A prototype of the technology was implemented for six small city of a Southern Italy Region, in order to demonstrate how the system can increase the cultural and economical assets of a cultural area even when the cultural items are defined as “minor sites” and located in small city.
