AbstractA Croatian technology transfer company developed technology to produce carp larvae and fingerling. Advantages over existing technologies are low mortality, more intense growth and shortening of production period from 3 to 2 years. The company seeks industrial partners interested in licensing, joint further development.DetailsProduction of carp in Croatia usually takes three years. It begins with introduction of three days old larvae in well prepared fish ponds. Frequently, due to the inappropriate wetter conditions up to 90% of larvae could be lost. Besides wetter conditions, important factor for larvae survival are: food and feeding, diseases and predators.Using new technology in breeding of larva and fingerling in controlled environment up to the phase when they are resilient it is possible to bypass critical period, reduce mortality by half and increase body mass form 30 to 40 grams up to 100 to 150 grams. All those prerequisites could shorten the breeding period of carps from three to two years. Innovative Aspects: Technology to produce carp larvae and fingerling is complex due to the fact that production must be controlled indirectly, through media in which larvae and fingerling live, fresh water. Advantages over existing technologies are low mortality, more intense growth and shortening of production period from 3 to 2 years. The company have extensive experience in solving biotechnology problems. All relevant parameters are carefully investigated, recommended combination of crucial factors together with innovative techniques make production technology feasible, robust and offer stable yields.
