AbstractA spin-off company of a Danish university has developed a decision support tool for dairy herd management. The software predicts production, reproduction and disease occurrence of dairy cows and thereby the economic performance of a dairy herd. The spin-off company is looking for license agreement or technical cooperation with an internatonal partner that has access to basic dairy herd data and the ambition to distribute the software.
DetailsThe software tool provides a decision platform for veterinarians and agricultural advisors based on cost efficiency of changes in selected focus areas, such as mastitis, calf mortality, reproduction etc. The software is based on extensive years of scientific research and statistic modelling and can be implemented as is or as a module to existing herd management systems.
Innovative Aspects:
Due to increasing herd size and fluctuating costs and milk prices, the complexity of dairy herd management has increased and will continue to do so in the future. The manager is facing decisions on herd health management, labour allocation, expansion and implementation of new technologies. Together with skilled advisors, the manager can predict the effects of these decisions on the single cow's performance. However, due to the complexity of herd dynamics, neither the farmer nor his advisors are able to translate the biological changes on cow level in economic performance on herd level.
Veterinarians and farm advisors use the software to increase productivity through scientifically based scenario analysis using herd-specific information. The model is able to estimate the herd specific profitability of management changes. Estimates are herd specific since the model behind the software determines the performance of the entire herd indirectly by simulating production and reproduction of all individual cows, heifers and calves. Furthermore, the model is able to simulate the individual manager's behaviour.

Type of partner sought: A partner in developing software for dairy farmers, preferrably with access to data. The partner has good connections to the farmer and to his advisors or the partner has an advisory role itself.
Specific area of activity of the partner: Software for management programs. Dairy herd advice. Accounting. Finance.
Task to be performed by the partner sought: Distribute the software belonging to the model and supply (a minimal amount of) service to the model user (advisor, accountant, veterinarian).
