AbstractAn induction-based technology for intelligent implant data transfer and charge has been developed by a Swiss SME specialized in intelligent microcontrollers, in collaboration with a Swiss MedTech company. The half duplex system between the device and the charger allows secured data transfer and a safe and optimized battery charge. Partners are sought for further development, adaptation to specific needs and distribution with technical assistance. Applications other than MedTech are considered.
DetailsThe electronic product, specially developed for MedTech applications, is able to communicate and charge a device by induction with a security system avoiding parasitic battery charge and disturbance.
Mainly developed for intelligent implants, this technology is the result of a 2 years project brought to a successful conclusion by an engineers' office specialized in microcontrollers with own embedded "intelligence". A tight collaboration with a MedTech company has insured the strong efficiency of the technology for MedTech applications.
In the first instance, a signature system allows to recognize the device and also to check the relative position between the device and the charger. As this procedure is permanently working, the right power for charging is sent at any time and secured link is insured.
The device sends functional information like battery voltage, temperature. The device has a half duplex communication to adapt the power emission. Thus a device can be charged with a permanent control of the battery temperature.
Regarding the power yield, it is for instance of around 8 % with a 80 % Titanium device's packaging, measured between the device's battery and the charger's power supply.
The half-duplex system, with different levels, guarantees the correct transfer of data : transaction identification, checksum, bit duplication, signature exchange, etc. The own developed software, highly configurable, gives access to the device's and charger's feature functions. Thus parameters can be modified using a high secured link.
