Abstract

A Swiss design bureau is looking for a “whiteboard like” material and/or coating that can be dry cleaned easily in their new productdesign in a more cost- and environmental friendly way than enamelled steel. Whiteboards show colour residues of non-toxic dry erase markers when dry cleaned. Enamelled steel seemed best, but is expensive and heavy. Lightness is also of importance. They are looking for technical cooperation and beyond to find a good solution to the problem.

Details

Whiteboards show colour residues of non-toxic dry erase markers when dry cleaned. Suppliers of dry erase markers advice to clean with specific cleaning fluids at a certain point, but most time these cleaning fluids are not around and/or they are toxic.

The Swiss design bureau looks for opportunities with respect to production & material technologies. They are looking for a “whiteboard like” material and/or coating that can be dry cleaned easily in their new productdesign in a more cost- and environmental friendly way than enamelled steel, and when possible lighter too. Lightness is of importance towards the environmental load during transport, since the whiteboards are often transported, but also for ergonomical and functional reasons.

So far Enamelled steel seemed best, but is expensive, heavy and the environmental aspect could be better. They tested already with several kinds of materials and coatings. They even tested coatings as used in Paris to make walls anti-graffiti protected, but they did not do the job either. They favour a solution in powder coating, but are open to any solution that fits to the technical requirements.
It is for this reason that they are looking for technical cooperation, knowhow and technology, to find a good solution to this problem

The solution should function with a specific type of non-toxic dry erase marker. The supplier of this specific Marker is fixed as it occurred to be the most healthy and practical for the teaching persons. The Trademark name will be given after responding to the owner of the Technology Profile with an Expression of Interest.

The outcome is of interest for the following venture economic codes:
Education and educational products & materials, but also Business products & supplies.

Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
- One should be able to clean the dried “trademark name” Original Dry Erase Marker from the “whiteboard like" material or coating.
- The material, coating and/or surface treatment should be more cost- and environmental friendly than enamelled steel.
- Lightness is of importance and interest.

Technology sector

- Coatings
- Surface treatment (painting, galvano, polishing, CVD, ..)
- Materials Technology
- Fine Chemicals, Dyes and Inks

Cooperation type

- Joint further development
- Testing of new applications
- Adaptation to specific needs
- Transfer of knowledge in new raw materials

Type of partner sought:
SME & Industry offering technology and or know how. Research organisations offering know how.

Specific area of activity of the partner:
The partner might be active in materials, coatings and/or surface treatment, but also in chemical substances.

Task to be performed:
To exchange know how and technology, eventual existing materials, coatings and or surface treatments, to meet with this market need. Maybe doing a joint feasibility test.
