Abstract

A small Italian company has patented a novel and simple method for decorating leather with paper applications in such a way that the leather surface remains smooth and uniform. This technique can be employed with any kind of leather and paper. The method produces very special and original effects. The company is looking for enterprises working with leather tanning or leather finishing interested to incorporate this product to their process.

Details

The technology deals with an original method for decorating tanned skins of animal origin by affixing pictures in paper foil onto their surface. The main purpose is to guarantee that the so decorated leather surface has an agreeable touch and a high resistance to wearing. Such specially prepared leather can then be destined to garments, fashion shoes and boots, accessories, covering of interior decoration objects, etc.

Innovative Aspects:
The method allows the production of leather with paper decorations affixed on the surface. The paper inserts adhere perfectly, and the finished product is smooth: the presence of the paper applications is imperceptible at the touch. Original decorations are combined with a high resistance to wear. This method uses mostly low environmental-impact products, and allows to avoid several costly (and polluting) chemical finishing phases of the treated leather. The environment-friendly advantage is increased further when vegetable-tanned leather is used.
